Last weekend we went to Kyoto with the Bullettrain! This train goes 330 km p/h and it takes nearly 3 hours to reach Kyoto from Tokyo, so you can imagine how far away it is.
So...Kyoto is the place to be when you want to see a lot of temples! There are sooo many! I can't remember all of the names, but one of the most famous ones is the Kinkaku-Ji temple, a.k.a the Golden temple!
A few times I was stopped by school children, who were doing an English assignment for school and wanted to interview me.
The funny thing about English in Japan, is that most people don't speak English. In fact so far the only people I've encountered who do are people who work in Hotels. Not even the taxi drivers know English, ...No wait that is not true actually, they can read English very well. It's the productive part of the language they can't do. Which is fine since I bought a little booklet with Japanese phrases and so far I've managed myself quite well.
Anyway back to the school children. One of them, a boy, read all the questions from a sheet of paper. When he asked for my name, I told him I'll write it down as my name is...well typically Dutch. After a few questions he thanked me, I thanked him (politeness is really really important here!...I'm really disliking the Western world at the moment), then he wanted to take a picture with me, which was no problem at all!
After him, two girls came up. Same school I reckoned as they asked me the same questions except for one.
What is your favorite music?
Thruth be told...I don't have one favourite, but I do love K-pop at the moment. So I decided to say to them: "I like Girl's Generation."
They had no idea...
I decided to be bold and sing part of one of there songs! (something I would never ever do in Europe, but here I did not care).
I got a boy meotjin! I got a boy chakhan!
I got a boy handsome boy nae mam da gajyeogan
They went mental! They clapped their hands and started shouting: Shojo Jidai
Which is the Japanese name for Girls Generation.
Scored some bonus points on that one!
Another picture followed and I quickly ran off before more school children would pound me.
Just a few picture to give you an idea :)
We went back to Tokyo on Sunday with the Bullettrain again (which was crowded!).
I really loved Kyoto :) (I like Japan in general...thinking of staying here...)
Until next time!
Love,
Flo
